Designated Area Migration Agreements

In reply to Mr PATTERSON (Morphett) ((23 June 2022).). (Estimates Committee A)

The Hon. S.E. CLOSE (Port Adelaide—Deputy Premier, Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, Minister for Defence and Space Industries, Minister for Climate, Environment and Water): I have been advised:

There were seven defence related positions endorsed under the DAMAs in 2021-22.

Defence occupations have been included in South Australia's DAMAs since their inception in 2019, including:

Sheetmetal Trades Workers,

Structural Steel and Welding Trades Workers,

Metal Fitters and Machinists.

Defence SA notes that the state's shipbuilding industry will create up to 5,000 jobs for South Australians by 2030, along with thousands of jobs across other projects.  In consultation with industry and the Naval Shipbuilding College, the short-term demand for skills are in combat systems engineering, engineering trades and technicians, heavy fabrication trades, production quality control, design and integrated logistics support, however these demands will change over time as defence projects evolve.
