TAFE SA Reinstated Courses, Student Numbers

In reply to the Hon. J.A.W. GARDNER (Morialta—Deputy Leader of the Opposition) ((22 June 2022).). (Estimates Committee A)

The Hon. B.I. BOYER (Wright—Minister for Education, Training and Skills): I have been advised of the following:

The number of trainees engaged in the courses, as opposed to those accessing through only campus-based delivery, will vary. Historically, the trainee student cohort for these courses comprised less than 5 per cent of total students. TAFE SA's modelling anticipates that future demand will be consistent with historical trends.

In relation to the Certificate III Individual Support, TAFE SA offers two specialisations: aged care and disability care. TAFE SA forecasts around 110 student commencements in the Certificate III Individual Support (Aging) and 60 commencements in the Certificate III Individual Support (Disability) during 2022-23. This represents approximately 25 per cent of the 640 students in the courses being reinstated.

As part of the process of reinstating these courses, TAFE SA will be work closely with the community services sector to ensure training delivery aligns to industry needs.
