New Houses, Cost
In reply to Ms PRATT (Frome) ((20 June 2022).). (Estimates Committee B)
The Hon. N.F. COOK (Hurtle Vale—Minister for Human Services): I have been advised:
The cost of building public housing has, in line with the broader construction industry, increased significantly over the past two years. Currently, costs in metropolitan areas range between $220,000 and $280,000 for a two- to four-bedroom home, and between $250,000 and $320,000 for two- to three-bedroom apartments. These costs differ in regional areas, with increases varying between 5 per cent and 18 per cent depending on the location and distance from Adelaide. This is a result of transport costs and trade availability. Costs are subject to further change and escalation rates.
