APY Lands Main Access Road Upgrade Project
In reply to Mr PEDERICK (Hammond) ((17 June 2022).). (Estimates Committee A)
The Hon. G.G. BROCK (Stuart—Minister for Local Government, Minister for Regional Roads, Minister for Veterans Affairs): I have been advised:
The Australian and South Australian governments contributed $156.78 million (80:20) towards the APY Lands Main Access Road Upgrade Project.
The APY Lands Main Access Road Upgrade Project involved an upgrade of the 210-kilometre road, linking the communities of Pukatja (Ernabella), Umuwa, Kaltjiti (Fregon), Mimili and Iwantja (Indulkana) to the Stuart Highway. The project involved raising the existing road profile, especially in low lying and flood prone areas; improving the road alignment; constructing new road pavement and sealing floodways and watercourses to improve safety, ride quality and reliability.
The project also included the further upgrade of the 28 kilometre link between Pukatja (Ernabella) to Umuwa (Double Tank) with the construction of an all-weather sealed surface, and the construction of an all-weather sealed surface for approximately 21-kilometres of community and airstrip access roads in Pukatja (Ernabella), Umuwa, Kaltjiti (Fregon), Mimili and Iwantja (Indulkana).
