Electoral Commission of South Australia
In reply to Mr TEAGUE (Heysen—Deputy Leader of the Opposition) (24 June 2025). (Estimates Committee B)
The Hon. K.J. MAHER (Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Attorney-General, Minister for Industrial Relations and Public Sector, Special Minister of State): I have been advised of the following:
The increase in income and expenses in the 2024-25 estimated result compared to the 2024-25 budget and the 2023-24 actual is primarily due to inclusion of intra-government transfers and expenses for the new election management systems and unbudgeted expenditure on the by-election conducted in the district of Black in 2024-25 compared with the conduct of the by-election in the district of Dunstan in 2023-24.
The increase in net cost of services in the 2024-25 estimated result compared to the 2024-25 budget is primarily due to the conduct of two unbudgeted First Nations Voice supplementary elections and unforeseen legal and other costs associated with elections referred to the Court of Disputed Returns.
