Vehicle Registration Fees

In reply to the Hon. V.A. TARZIA (Hartley) (30 June 2023). (Estimates Committee A)

The Hon. A. KOUTSANTONIS (West Torrens—Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Minister for Energy and Mining): The Department for Infrastructure and Transport advises the number of vehicles to which an outer areas registration concession was applied between 1 July 2022, and 30 June 2023, was approximately 12,693.

The reintroduction of the outer areas registration concession was an election commitment of the Malinauskas Labor government and has saved regional communities in excess of $3.1 million.

Similarly, as of 1 July 2022, owners of historic or left-hand drive vehicles 25 years or older were able to access reduced care registration fees under the conditional registration scheme.

The number of vehicles between 25 and 29 years of age that registered on the conditional registration scheme as of 30 June 2023, was approximately 2,924 vehicles.

From 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023, the total fee for a typical six cylinder vehicle in metropolitan Adelaide was $820.09. However, if this same vehicle was on historic registration for the 12-month period, a total fee of $82.14 would apply, resulting in to a cost saving of $737.95.
