Licence Transfers

In reply to Mr TEAGUE (Heysen) ((23 June 2022).). (Estimates Committee B)

The Hon. A. MICHAELS (Enfield—Minister for Small and Family Business, Minister for Consumer and Business Affairs, Minister for Arts): I have been advised:

New liquor licence applications decreased by 12 per cent to 519 in 2021-22 from 590 in 2020-21. This slight decline can likely be attributed to higher numbers of packaged liquor sales and an increase in liquor production and sales licences during 2020-21 when many home liquor businesses were established as a result of COVID-19.

The number of applications to transfer licences has remained the same over 2020-21 and 2021-22.

There was a notable decrease in licence variations due to changes to liquor licensing fees in 2020-21 resulting in a number of licensees applying to downgrade their trading hours and capacities to reduce their fees.
