NON-GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS GRANTS

In reply to Mr PISONI (Unley) (30 June 2011) (Estimates Committee B).

The Hon. G. PORTOLESI (Hartley—Minister for Education and Child Development): The in-kind assistance includes the cost of the student conveyance allowance and the School Card Assistance Scheme. The total amount of in-kind assistance estimated for the 2011-12 Budget is $2.3 million.

In addition to this assistance, the Department for Education and Child Development provides a range of other supports to the non-government schooling sector including:

The services of 13 Education Officers based in the Adelaide Festival Centre, SA Museum, Art Gallery of SA, Botanic Gardens of Adelaide, Zoos SA, SA Maritime Museum, Parliament House, Law Courts, Migration Museum, SA Water and CSIRO at no cost to schools.

Access to services, staff, and teaching and student resources from the department's Aboriginal, Multicultural, Languages and learning Resource Centre.

Access of non-government students to participate in state-wide academic competitions hosted by departmental officers like the Eden Prize, Spirit of ANZAC, Young Writers Award and Spring Poetry Festival.
