IRIS SYSTEMS

Mr HAMILTON-SMITH (Waite—Leader of the Opposition) (14:14): Can the Minister for Health confirm that the manager of information technology at the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science purchased for $1 certain software called IRIS 2, which was developed by IMVS staff, and that the rights were subsequently assigned to the manager's domestic partner and the partners of two other IMVS employees, who sold it for $770,000 with an annual maintenance fee of $200,000 per annum over five years?

The Hon. J.D. HILL (Kaurna—Minister for Health, Minister for the Southern Suburbs, Minister Assisting the Premier in the Arts) (14:15): I am aware of issues associated with allegations along these lines at the IMVS. As I understand it, it is a police matter. I am not too sure at this stage where it is in the process. I will take some advice about what information I can provide to the house, given the sensitivities of the matter. However, I point out to the house that the IMVS operated as its own board, as a statutory authority. I introduced legislation to this parliament to change that so we have direct control over that organisation. That direct control came into place on 1 July. Members on the other side wanted to keep the arrangements in place, which created the circumstances that the member has now brought to our attention.
