Whyalla Steelworks

The Hon. H.M. GIROLAMO (Deputy Leader of the Opposition) (14:24): Supplementary: is the government aware of the exact value of all outstanding creditors from OneSteel?

The Hon. K.J. MAHER (Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Attorney-General, Minister for Industrial Relations and Public Sector, Special Minister of State) (14:24): I think there are two parts to that answer. I think that was one of the big problems with the situation that was faced with the operations of OneSteel, that it was unclear exactly what was owed and who it was owed to. It is not a publicly listed company, and access to those records has been difficult at best. I think TheĀ Advertiser published some of those about a week ago, but that will be part of the point of the administrationā€”to ascertain exactly what is owed.

But also, a part of the legislation we passed yesterday allowed for the government to have access to those complete financial records as well as the laws surrounding the administration of the company. So that will have to be ascertained in the coming days and weeks.
