HIGHBURY AQUEDUCT LAND

The Hon. J.S.L. DAWKINS (15:05): As a supplementary question, will the minister outline how much the government plans to spend on this piece of land to upgrade it to the level of Linear Park and when will this work commence?

The Hon. P. HOLLOWAY (Minister for Mineral Resources Development, Minister for Urban Development and Planning, Minister for Industrial Relations, Minister Assisting the Premier in Public Sector Management) (15:06): As I said, it will obviously have to be done in a number of stages because it will cost, I imagine, some millions. I think there are four stages proposed, and I would be surprised if the first stage cost any less than $1 million. I suspect it will be somewhat more. Obviously we will only be able to afford to do that over a number of years, so we will have to progressively work through it. That was part of the commitment that we took on when we took over the land. I am sure the end result will be a fantastic facility for the people of Highbury, but we will obviously have to work through that progressively.
