Housing Authority
The Hon. K.J. MAHER (Leader of the Opposition) (14:32): Supplementary arising from the answer: what factors will be taken into consideration when it is decided which minister will have oversight of this new authority?
The Hon. J.M.A. LENSINK (Minister for Human Services) (14:32): I have talked about this issue before, both on radio and, I think, referred to it in this place. One of the commitments of the Marshall team in the election was better services. That is certainly at the heart of this decision. In 2014, I think it was, the then Weatherill government made the decision to split the tenancy management and the asset management of the functions of the South Australian Housing Trust. It has been described by the Auditor-General as 'somewhat dysfunctional'. That is certainly the feedback that I have had from a range of stakeholders. We believe that the assets and the tenancy management need to be better managed, better coordinated and that is what we are working towards.
