CEDUNA DAY CENTRE

The Hon. J.J. SNELLING (Playford—Minister for Health and Ageing, Minister for Mental Health and Substance Abuse, Minister for Defence Industries, Minister for Veterans' Affairs): The Ceduna Day Centre was opened in May, 2012. The centre aims to minimise substance misuse harms to Aboriginal people by providing a range of alcohol and other drug treatment programs and group activities.

Clients who visit the centre have access to services which include showers, meals, storage, support and advocacy, or can be referred by agencies such as health, legal and accommodation services for a range of treatment interventions.

Funding provided by the Australian Government Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health for the Ceduna Day Centre in 2012-13 was $672,540.

Preliminary data indicates that in 2012-13, up to 30 May 2013, 43 clients commenced formal treatment, and there were approximately 10,600 visits for breakfast, lunch, showers and diversionary activities.

A 21 bed sobering up service is available 24 hour a day, seven days per week in Ceduna. The service is funded by the South Australian Department for Health and Ageing's Drug and Alcohol Services Program and delivered by the Ceduna Koonibba Aboriginal Health Service Aboriginal Corporation.
