CHELTENHAM PARK RACECOURSE

The Hon. T.J. STEPHENS (14:46): I have a supplementary question. Minister, will you provide us with the location of the transit-oriented developments in Perth upon which this development is modelled?

The Hon. P. HOLLOWAY (Minister for Police, Minister for Mineral Resources Development, Minister for Urban Development and Planning) (14:46): There are a number of good examples of such redevelopments. There are some around Subiaco. I think an authority has been established in Perth (the West Perth Redevelopment Authority, or something like that). Certainly, there is a body that has a special capacity for redeveloping those inner areas of Perth, particularly West Perth, around Subiaco, there are of a number of lines that radiate out from Perth, the Joondelup line being one of them. However, there is also the other line that goes up through the north of Perth through the centre. In Perth, I understand they are spending $2 billion on a new light railway down to Mandurah. However, here in this state, when we have a $30 million extension to the tramline, members opposite oppose it every inch of the way. I think that says a lot about members opposite: they think small and they act small.
