YOUTH SERVICES

In reply to Mr TRELOAR (Flinders) (25 June 2012).

The Hon. I.K. HUNTER (Minister for Communities and Social Inclusion, Minister for Social Housing, Minister for Disabilities, Minister for Youth, Minister for Volunteers): I am advised that the breakdown of the 2011-12 Estimated Result in regards to the number of regional youth who are involved in such programs is as follows:

Performance Indicator 2011-12 Estimated Regional Outcome
Number of young people involved in government and community decision making processes 1,450(26% of total)
Number of young people who participate in youth development programs 1,903(22% of total)
Number of new participants in Duke of Edinburgh's Awards program 341(21% of total)
Number of young people volunteering in their local communities through youth programs 1,875(30% of total)

These figures are relatively comparable with the regional population as a percentage of the total South Australian population, which currently sits at approximately 23 per cent.

The '2011-12 Estimated Regional Outcome' includes young people between 12 and 25 years of age, who live in the South Australian Government regions of Eyre and Western, Far North, Limestone Coast, Murray and Mallee and Yorke and Mid North.
