Whyalla Steelworks

The Hon. D.G.E. HOOD (15:03): My question is to the Leader of the Government regarding the administration of OneSteel Manufacturing. It is obviously very early, but has the government received any advice at this stage as to whether it is possible for any of the payments already made to businesses to be clawed back by the administrator and, if so, under what circumstances?

The Hon. K.J. MAHER (Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Attorney-General, Minister for Industrial Relations and Public Sector, Special Minister of State) (15:03): I thank the honourable member for his question, but once again, I think it is far too early to start speculating about what the administrator may or may not be able to do. It has been a matter of, I think, still under two weeks since the administration began during the last sitting week of parliament. As I said, as I understand it, the first meeting of creditors was only held yesterday in Whyalla. These will all be issues I am sure the administrator will look at in the weeks and months to come.
