SWINE FLU

The Hon. J.D. HILL (Kaurna—Minister for Health, Minister for the Southern Suburbs, Minister Assisting the Premier in the Arts) (15:11): I seek leave to make a ministerial statement.

Leave granted.

The Hon. J.D. HILL: Subsequent to the ministerial statement I made before question time in relation to swine flu, I am now advised that the commonwealth government has decided to include flights from New Zealand to Adelaide as part of the protection protocols that it has put in place in the Eastern States. As members would be aware, flights from North America and Mexico—and other places as well, I understand—coming into the Eastern States are subject to quarantine protocols whereby passengers are checked in a particular way.

I raised this issue this morning with the federal minister and asked whether flights from New Zealand to Adelaide could be included, given the fact that a number of people in New Zealand have swine flu. I am pleased to advise that the minister has supported my request, and that will now take place.
