Statutes Amendment (SACAT) Amendment Bill

Second Reading

Adjourned debate on second reading.

(Continued from 22 September 2016.)

The Hon. R.I. LUCAS (12:50): I should have indicated in my lengthy contribution to the Employment Tribunal bill that the SACAT amendment bill is a partner bill. Most of the comments I made will flow through to this. This is a relatively simple bill in the context of the last bill. The bill will repeal part 12 of the Statutes Amendment (SACAT) Act 2014, which will effectively avoid the public sector Grievance Review Commission jurisdiction being conferred on SACAT automatically in December of this year. The government argues that it would be undesirable for the public sector jurisdiction to be conferred on SACAT in December of this year, only for it to then be conferred on the South Australian Employment Tribunal in July 2017. For those reasons, this bill simply repeals part 12 of the SACAT act, and we support it.

Debate adjourned on motion of Hon. T.T. Ngo.

Sitting suspended from 12:51 to 14:18.
