          <inserted>The government was pleased with the decision from the Court of Appeal of South Australia in Cruise v The King; R v Cruise [2025] SASCA 59 which sent a very clear message that such offending against police officers will not be tolerated.</inserted>

          <inserted>In response to being asked about the opposition's proposed reform to prevent suspended sentences where police have been assaulted, Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said on 13 January 2025 on ABC radio that he was 'not sure about the effectiveness of that proposition'. In relation to the opposition's bill, Statutes Amendment (Assaults on Police Officers) Bill 2025, the commissioner said on FIVEaa on 20 February 2025 'I don't think it's the answer'.</inserted>
