          <inserted>There is no new policy or procedure. They have been in place since October 2016 with no substantive changes.</inserted>

          <inserted>The Department for Education's gender diverse and intersex children and young people support procedure clearly states an aim to always have a family inclusive approach. Site leaders are advised to include the child or young person's parents when a child or young person asks for support to affirm their gender or to socially transition. </inserted>

          <inserted>Education staff do not make decisions about the gender of a student. This is a personal and individual matter for the student and their family with support from medical specialists. </inserted>
        </text>

          <inserted>The Department for Education does not override the rights of a child's parents or guardians. Departmental staff have a responsibility to follow policies and procedures that ensure the foreseeable risk of harm to a child or young person in their care is controlled and minimised.</inserted>
