          <inserted>The inquiry was initiated within the context of the live export trade in South Australia. It investigated how South Australian industries would be affect by industry changes, to ensure the South Australian industry remained strong and robust if live sheep export were banned or restricted at a federal level. The report on the inquiry into South Australian livestock industries was tabled in the House of Assembly and ordered to be published on 4 December 2019. </inserted>

          <inserted>While a federal ban on live sheep export did not proceed, the South Australian sheep industry has remained strong and does not rely on the live export trade. There has been no consignments of live sheep exported by sea from a South Australian port since 2018.</inserted>

          <inserted>The South Australian government works closely with the livestock industry, collaborating and assisting in identifying opportunities and addressing challenges. The government supports initiatives that will assist South Australia's livestock industries to achieve their strategic goals, implement innovation and support the development of premium product offerings. </inserted>

          <inserted>The South Australian government also continues to support the enforcement of animal welfare laws that apply within South Australia while the Australian government continues to respond to emerging issues and set policy directions at the national level.</inserted>
