MAHER (Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Attorney-General, Minister for Industrial Relations and Public Sector): The Minister for Local Government has advised: Under the Local Government (Elections) Act 1999, the Electoral Commissioner is the returning officer for all local government elections. The Electoral Commissioner is therefore responsible for investigating any allegations of irregularities in the 2022 periodic council elections, and I am confident that he will do so thoroughly. Any questions as to how the Electoral Commissioner undertakes this responsibility should be directed to the commissioner.
