MAHER (Attorney-General, Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Minister for Industrial Relations and Public Sector): I have been advised: Currently, Mirning people are included in an ongoing Far West Coast sea claim which covers an area of sea and land in the Great Australian Bight. In broad terms, that claim is brought on behalf of Mirning, Wirangu and Kokatha people who hold native title rights in the adjoining Far West Coast land claim. The claim is currently part heard before the Federal Court. I have not met with either the Mirning people or the other parties regarding the Far West Coast sea claim.
