Subsequently, the President, Senator the Hon. Scott Ryan, sought the leave of the Senate and then asked Black Rod to escort me to the chair to his immediate left, where I sat for the remainder of question time. This is a traditional practice in the Senate to acknowledge the presence of presiding members, on behalf of their respective chambers, from other commonwealth jurisdictions. On behalf of members of this chamber, I conveyed to the President of the Senate my great thanks for this recognition.
