          <inserted>The Planning and Design Code (the code) transitions local development plans into a new framework under the<term> Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016</term>.</inserted>
        </text>

          <inserted>The code allows the excision of an allotment to accommodate an existing dwelling on a smaller allotment of land where this was already permitted under the local development plan. This allows for an additional dwelling to be accommodated on the remaining larger parcel of land.</inserted>

          <inserted>Further policy development and improvements are expected to be advanced in successive iterations of the code. This would provide the opportunity to expand the application of these provisions should there be a demonstrated need.</inserted>

          <inserted>It should be noted, that these dwelling excision policies do not apply in the Environment and Food Production Areas (EFPA) or the character preservation districts. In both these areas the legislation does not allow subdivision for land to create new allotments for residential purposes.</inserted>

          <inserted>The State Planning Commission will conduct an inquiry into the EFPA in 2021, which will also consider recommendations about the character preservation districts. Part of this review will include a call for submissions from interested parties.</inserted>
