          <inserted>From January 2019 to 30 June 2019, SafeWork SA undertook an elevating work platform (EWP) audit campaign as a measure to address these concerns. The audit campaign covered multiple industries and reviewed the safety of EWPs over three metres high. Two-hundred-and-thirty-four audits were undertaken, and 66 improvement notices and 21 prohibition notices were issued to persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU).</inserted>

          <inserted>The focus of the audit campaign was to measure and achieve compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA) and the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2012 (SA), with inspectors specifically assessing whether:</inserted>

            <inserted>information for the operation and use of the EWP is available to the operator;</inserted>
          </item>
        </text>
        <text id="20191029aa40a7c84827431690000518">
          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">
            <inserted>maintenance records are kept and are up to date;</inserted>
          </item>
        </text>
        <text id="20191029aa40a7c84827431690000519">
          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">
            <inserted>operators are competent and where necessary, licensed;</inserted>
          </item>
        </text>
        <text id="20191029aa40a7c84827431690000520">
          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">
            <inserted>safety equipment and administrative controls are available, used and maintained;</inserted>
          </item>
        </text>

          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">
            <inserted>operational controls are clearly marked and in good working order;</inserted>
          </item>
        </text>

          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">
            <inserted>emergency controls are visible and operational;</inserted>
          </item>
        </text>

          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">
            <inserted>where the EWP is for hire, that the hirer ensures the above; and</inserted>
          </item>
        </text>

          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">
            <inserted>the EWP is used in suitable locations and on suitable surfaces.</inserted>

          <inserted>The identified outcomes of the audit campaign were to:</inserted>
        </text>

            <inserted>identify EWP work health and safety noncompliance for PCBUs and EWP licence holders and issue appropriate sanctions where required; </inserted>
          </item>
        </text>

          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">
            <inserted>educate PCBUs and EWP licence holders on the safe use of EWPs; and</inserted>
          </item>
        </text>
        <text id="20191029aa40a7c84827431690000528">
          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">
            <inserted>ensure PCBUs have appropriate safe systems of work in place to protect and educate workers on their responsibilities when working with EWPs to ensure their own safety and the safety of their co-workers.</inserted>

          <inserted>As part of the campaign, PCBUs and EWP operators were also invited to provide their views on the state Coroner's recommendations contained within the inquest findings in relation to the death of Mr Jorge Castillo-Riffo.</inserted>

          <inserted>SafeWork SA has now provided a report on the audit outcomes to me for noting. A copy of the report is due to be published on SafeWork SA's website in October 2019.</inserted>
