MAHER (Leader of the Opposition) (14:52):</by>  A supplementary question arising from the answer given: the Treasurer talked about budget deficits and he has admitted that revenue is up, spending might be down. He was left with a surplus but he might turn it into a deficit. My question is: how many budgets has the Treasurer delivered in the past, and how many of those have been surpluses?</text>

LUCAS:</by>  —what the Leader of the Opposition has just indicated is entirely inaccurate, and that is I never indicated the words to the effect that he indicated that I did. In relation to the position of former budgets, if you want to go back to 20 years ago, I am quite happy to bring into the house the four budget documents that were produced, three of which had surpluses in the non-commercial sector. Those documents indicate quite clearly they were surplus budgets.</text>
