HUNTER (14:38):</by>  Supplementary: the minister on his feet also lamented a decision not to give someone a pair to go out and foster a positive environment with industry. I wonder if the minister would care to reflect on why that is important today when it wasn't important to give the premier of the previous government a pair to go to Whyalla for the opening of a crucial industry, the steelworks.</text>

RIDGWAY (Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment) (14:38):</by>  I remind the honourable member that this is the Legislative Council and we don't have any influence over the pairs granted or not granted in the House of Assembly. We have had a very constructive relationship—I have been in this chamber longer than the honourable member; I have been here for 16 years—I don't recall the opposition in the previous 16 years refusing any pairs to the government in the Legislative Council.</text>
