G.E. GAGO (Minister for Employment, Higher Education and Skills, Minister for Science and Information Economy, Minister for the Status of Women, Minister for Business Services and Consumers): The Premier has advised: Closing the gap between the outcomes for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal South Australians is a priority for this government. The Forrest Review provides an ambitious vision for improving outcomes for Aboriginal people, proposing reforms to the ways that the Australian Government and to a lesser degree States and Territories support Aboriginal people. The Premier has indicated his broad support for the review. However there are many aspects that require clarification, including strategies that support implementation of the recommendations. The Australian Government continues to consider the review and how it may be implemented. Consultations have been held by the Commissioner for Aboriginal Engagement on the review and further consultation will occur on proposed implementation strategies for recommendations that are progressed.
