        <text id="20120918692c93fb60104e7790000292">The <term>Children's Protection Act 1993</term> provides a clear legal framework for dealing with child protection matters, including the response to notifications and oversight of child protection practice. These are supported by the Families SA manuals of practice and procedures.</text>
        <text id="20120918692c93fb60104e7790000293">The <term>Children's Protection Act 1993</term>, as amended in 2005, established a number of mechanisms for external oversight, including:</text>
        <text id="20120918692c93fb60104e7790000294">
          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">Office of the Guardian for Children and Young People;</item>
        </text>
        <text id="20120918692c93fb60104e7790000295">
          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">Child Death and Serious Injury Review Committee; and</item>
        </text>
        <text id="20120918692c93fb60104e7790000296">
          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">The Council for the Care of Children.</item>
        </text>
        <text continued="true" id="20120918692c93fb60104e7790000297">In addition the following bodies also oversight Families SA:</text>

          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">Special Investigation Unit;</item>
        </text>

          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">Office of the Health and Community Services Complaints Commissioner (HCSCC); and</item>
        </text>
        <text id="20120918692c93fb60104e7790000300">
          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">Ombudsman SA.</item>
        </text>
        <text continued="true" id="20120918692c93fb60104e7790000301">The South Australian Parliament is able to scrutinise Families SA.</text>
