Is the minister aware that the Australian Landfill Owners Association recently told the LGA conference that the carbon price will increase landfill prices by up to $30 a tonne; and what is the state government doing to mitigate those impacts on councils?</text>

WORTLEY (Minister for Industrial Relations, Minister for State/Local Government Relations) (14:59): </by> I am not aware of that particular claim but, if there is such a claim, we will naturally be looking into it. Because this is new, there are a lot of wild assumptions in regard to pricing and so on, so I think we have to temper to some extent what we are hearing. Right through this whole debate, the opposition—federal, in particular—has made some amazing, inaccurate assumptions in regard to carbon pricing. If there is any truth to it, or any science to it, I am sure that we will be involved in discussions with them.</text>
