Consideration in committee. The Hon. P. HOLLOWAY Legislative Council The Hon. P. HOLLOWAY: I move: That the council do not insist on its amendments. I do so formally, so that we can seek to resolve the disagreement between the houses through the agency of a conference. It is necessary that, if the council continues to insist on its amendments, the appropriate measures can be taken to establish a conference. I understand that there have been discussions between the Attorney and the shadow attorney and other relevant members that this should take place, so I will not take up any more time of the chamber on this matter. I will not be insisting on a division if the motion is rejected. The Hon. S.G. WADE Legislative Council The Hon. S.G. WADE: For all the reasons put in debate, the opposition will be opposing the minister’s motion. We believe that the council should insist on its amendments and hope that, as the minister indicated, the foreshadowed conference may be able to facilitate progress between the houses.
