CARMEL ZOLLO (Minister for Correctional Services, Minister for Road Safety, Minister for Gambling, Minister Assisting the Minister for Multicultural Affairs):</by>  Prior to November 2007, and pursuant to the provisions of the Correctional Services Act 1982, SAPOL had eleven police stations declared as police prisons. These were:</text>

          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">Kingscote (proclaimed 27 June 1906);</item>
        </text>
        <text id="2008091190cd11ff3f5b430bb0000256">
          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">Ceduna (proclaimed 15 June 1927);</item>
        </text>
        <text id="2008091190cd11ff3f5b430bb0000257">
          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">Port Pirie (proclaimed 14 September 1939);</item>
        </text>
        <text id="2008091190cd11ff3f5b430bb0000258">
          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">Leigh Creek (proclaimed 3 March 1960);</item>

          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">City Watch House (proclaimed 8 January 1987).</item>
        </text>
        <text id="2008091190cd11ff3f5b430bb0000265">Advances in transport have reduced the need for some of these stations to remain as declared police prisons. It has become preferable and more economically viable to have sentenced prisoners transferred promptly to other correctional services’ prisons. This is particularly the case where the police prison is not staffed on a 24-hour basis.</text>
        <text id="2008091190cd11ff3f5b430bb0000266">I am advised that at that time, five of the police stations mentioned were identified as being no longer necessary or appropriate to continue as declared police prisons.</text>
        <text id="2008091190cd11ff3f5b430bb0000267">The five police stations were:</text>

          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">Leigh Creek;</item>
        </text>

          <item sublevel="1" bullet="true">Oodnadatta;</item>

        <text id="2008091190cd11ff3f5b430bb0000273">As a result, by the way of the notice that appeared in the <term>Gazette</term> on 29 November 2007, while not naming the particular police prisons, the proclamation for each of these was revoked with the following:</text>
        <text id="2008091190cd11ff3f5b430bb0000274">'Revocation of the proclamation declaring police prisons before the commencement of the Act. Any proclamation (howsoever worded) made before the commencement of the Correctional Services Act 1982<term></term>declaring premises to be police prisons is revoked.'</text>
        <text id="2008091190cd11ff3f5b430bb0000275">Also, in the <term>Gazette</term> notice of 29 November 2007, a further 13 police prisons were added to the list of declared police prisons as follows:</text>
