<text id="20250916f1bf3590a4794e4ca0000519">Over recent months I have had the opportunity to meet with parents and staff at the kindy who shared their concerns with me directly. Families are forced to cross a busy section of Dunbar Terrace at peak drop-off and pick-up times without a designated crossing, while cars speed past or park illegally in the No Standing zone, creating congestion, blind spots and unnecessary risk for some of our youngest community members.</text>
<text id="20250916f1bf3590a4794e4ca0000520">After listening to these concerns I wrote to the City of Holdfast Bay to formally raise the issue and request urgent consideration of safety measures. I also launched a community petition and attended the kindy in person a number of times to speak with parents and locals and give them the opportunity to sign the petition. I also shared the petition online to ensure as many voices as possible could be heard.</text>
<text id="20250916f1bf3590a4794e4ca0000521">The response has been overwhelming, with strong community support for action. Thank you to parents Tobi, Brad and Danielle for raising this important issue with me and director Gayle Mills for her support and everyone who has signed the petition. Your support sends a powerful message about the importance of protecting our children. Together we are calling for practical solutions. This could include an emu crossing and improved signage that will give families peace of mind and provide safer access for all at Dunbar Terrace kindy.</text>

The Friends of Glenthorne are a very dedicated group who are involved in conservation, restoration and revegetation projects and other activities at Glenthorne National Park. The friends group has been particularly focused on the restoration of grey box derived grasslands, which play a crucial role in connecting wooded areas with open grass spaces and are important habitats for a diverse range of plant and animal species.</text>
<text id="20250916f1bf3590a4794e4ca0000523">I was proud to recently secure a grant for the Friends of Glenthorne, along with my friend the member for Davenport, to support the Friends of Glenthorne with new equipment for their volunteer work. The AGM featured a presentation from guest speaker Professor Mike Gardner, who talked about his work in preserving pygmy blue-tongue lizards. Mike and his team have been working on translocating this species to mitigate the effects of climate change, which threatens to wipe out existing populations in the Burra region. The friends group were interested to see whether they could translocate the pygmy blue-tongues to Glenthorne at some stage in the future. </text>
<text id="20250916f1bf3590a4794e4ca0000524">Congratulations to Martin Schumacher, who was re-elected as president, Judy Clarke as vice-president and Alan Burns as treasurer. We are very fortunate to have those office bearers of the committee, and the entire friends group, in our community, protecting this wonderful environment for future generations.</text>

This year, in particular, I want to acknowledge the women's team, because 2025 saw the re-introduction of a women's program at Glenunga, and what a massive success it was with the team taking out the division 4 premiership.</text>
<text id="20250916f1bf3590a4794e4ca0000526">I want to commend the team for coming together and growing as players in such a short space of time and taking out that big win—a win that never looked in doubt against Modbury. I think it also serves as a bit of an inspiration to the wider Glenunga footy club—indeed, particularly the junior girls' teams. They have a really thriving girls' program at Glenunga, who themselves experienced considerable success over the course of this year. I want, in particular, to commend and congratulate the under-12 and under-14 premiership girls' teams on their successes. There was a whole heap of other success across the season.</text>
<text id="20250916f1bf3590a4794e4ca0000527">This is a club now with 35 teams that is powered by volunteers, powered by community, and I want to commend and congratulate all those who have been involved in making 2025 such a great success at the Glenunga Rams Footy Club.</text>

It is a huge achievement, and a real credit to every player who has pulled on the Vikings guernsey this season.</text>
<text id="20250916f1bf3590a4794e4ca0000529">Well done to these players who secured the grand final spot at the prelim final: Nicholas Frisby-Smith, Dylan Brown, Matthew Lillis, Max Gill, Joel Beeche, Lachlan Hamilton, Darnell Tucker, Jayden Little, Cooper Rogers, Harry Vick, Harry Davenport, Sam Flett, Sebastian Oliver, Liam Hamilton, Dylan Strickland, Jack Flett, Luke Edwards, Ben Ryan, Harry Spacie, Liam O'Connor, Jordan Thompson and Nicholas Kraemer. Of course, credit also goes to their excellent coach, Andrew Cook.</text>
<text id="20250916f1bf3590a4794e4ca0000530">Commiserations to the Flagstaff Hill Falcons A grade, who just missed out at the preliminary final on Saturday the 13th. They had a fantastic season despite a tough run of injuries, and they should be proud of their efforts. Fingers crossed the 17s can get over the line in their grand final on Sunday.</text>
<text id="20250916f1bf3590a4794e4ca0000531">To the Vikings A grade, all the very best at the big dance this Saturday. I will be there cheering you on and then looking forward to joining you back at the club to celebrate what has been a brilliant season. Finally, a big acknowledgement to all the Vikings teams across the grades who have worn the black and gold this year. Every one of you contributes to making this club what it is. Go Vikings.</text>
