MALINAUSKAS (Croydon—Premier) (15:07):</by>  The appointment of a person to that role will be done on the basis of merit and merit alone because that is required in any recruitment of a senior executive in the public sector. More than that, it is a matter of law, under the Public Sector Act. The Leader of the Opposition, being a former minister himself, would also be aware that those appointments are made by department CEOs and are free of political interference.</text>

Mr Rik Morris is a cabinet appointment, which of course is very distinct from this position here.</text>
