CHAMPION: If we get to just before the caretaker period in an election year and it's a controversial deal, yes, I would come to you and ask your opinion on it. That's exactly what I would do. I certainly wouldn't sign off on it just out of the blue. It was a completely reckless decision, in my estimation, not just because it bound a future Labor government; it bound you as well, which is what I suspect the former Treasurer was trying to do.
