Ms BEDFORD House of Assembly Ms BEDFORD: One of my constituents, an aged-care nurse who injured her back at work, recently made a claim for $5,450 worth of kitchen alterations, as she had been unable to use the kitchen since her injury in August 2018. The claim was rejected, so she sought legal advice to challenge and ultimately won a similar total to her original renovation claim, being awarded $2,000 for repairs to the home plus a refund of her legal costs of $3,143. However, this means, with only $2,000, she is now unable to afford the required work to which her court win proved she was originally entitled under state legislation, all the while enduring significant pain whilst waiting over a year, and in the end the taxpayer has footed the bill.
