SANDERSON (Adelaide—Minister for Child Protection): I have been advised: As at 1 April 2019, there have been three registered primary and secondary foster carers (two households) who have entered the SA child protection system and subsequently left, since 1 April 2018. One of the two households has transitioned to kinship care and the other exited the South Australia child protection system due to a relocation of carers interstate. All of the registered primary and secondary foster carers had more than one placement either consecutively or simultaneously of short-term, emergency and respite placement types. A household with which a child or young person can be placed is distinct from the number of registered primary and secondary foster carers, as both the registered primary and secondary foster carer can care for a child or young person within one household. Foster carers can choose to facilitate one or more placement types such as long-term, short-term, emergency, respite and specialist placements.
