          <inserted>The Department for Correctional Services undertakes regular calculations of the actual expenditure of all South Australian public and private prisons to support high quality and efficient service delivery. Using this information, the Department evaluates each site's operating expenditure using a cost per prisoner per day analysis.</inserted>

          <inserted>In undertaking this analysis, the department considers the costs for each prison include all salary on costs for the staff at each institution, depreciation, and the apportioned overhead costs for a range of centrally based services. These calculations do not include prisoner health and pharmaceutical costs incurred by SA Health.</inserted>
