Ms CHAPMAN House of Assembly Bragg Deputy Leader of the Opposition Ms CHAPMAN (Bragg—Deputy Leader of the Opposition) (12:42): I rise to indicate that the opposition will be supporting the bill. It amends the Children's Protection Act 1993, the Criminal Law (Forensic Procedures) Act 2007, the Disability Services Act 1993 and the Spent Convictions Act 2009. Essentially, we know that the commonwealth has merged CrimTrac and the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission, effective 1 July last year; in fact, we have just dealt with the health practitioner regulations to also accommodate that change. That bill accommodates the importance of ensuring continuity of access to CrimTrac, in particular. Wherever we have the need for some historical criminal record of a party, whether it is to determine that they are a fit and proper person to operate a pharmacy or to apply for a job, we obviously need to have access to this. So, it is an important initiative that this bill accommodates. We are told that, in the last 11 months, the accommodation of continued access to this information has been utilised by regulation, and that has ensured the unimpeded short-term application of access in the scheme. I confirm our appreciation of the SAPOL and AGD representatives who provided a briefing in respect of this matter—promptly, as requested—and we were able therefore to proceed to support the same.
