            <by role="member" id="4622">The Hon. S.E. CLOSE (Port Adelaide—Minister for Education and Child Development, Minister for Higher Education and Skills):</by>  The Minister for Sustainability, Environment and Conservation has provided the following advice:</inserted>

          <inserted>Local council is the authority to address this particular issue under Section 254 of the <term>Local Government Act 1999</term> as well as domestic squalor guidelines under the <term>SA Public Health Act 2011</term>. However, I can confirm that on 1 July 2017, provisions under the <term>Local Nuisance and Litter Control Act 2016</term> will come into effect which will provide councils with better tools in dealing with these types of issues. </inserted>

          <inserted>The new provisions will enable councils to clean up squalid properties where there has been non-compliance with a council notice requiring clean-up. Council is then able to seek compensation from the owner of the property for clean-up costs.</inserted>
