Will the government immediately move to introduce legislation for a commissioner for children and young people with investigative powers, as demanded by Belinda Valentine this morning? The Hon. S.E. CLOSE (Port Adelaide—Minister for Education and Child Development, Minister for the Public Sector) (14:26): I think we canvassed the recent history of that bill fairly extensively yesterday, so I won't go over that again. I also had the opportunity to have a chat to Belinda this morning when I bumped into her around the corner from my office. What we discussed was that, given that we have slightly different emphases on what the commissioner might look like and the fact that I had—I believed with the concurrence of the opposition spokesperson—decided that it was a wiser path to refer this to the royal commissioner, who has expressed a view that she is likely to come up with recommendations that would influence the structure of such an institution, we agreed that for that reason, and probably for many others, it would be useful for her to meet with Margaret Nyland and to offer to make representation to her on her views. I am going to facilitate; I will make sure that's facilitated in the sense of making sure that Ms Valentine has access to the contact details that are required in order to allow that to happen. I think that will mean that the commissioner, in her consideration that will guide our views on the bill, will have full possession of information, including from Ms Valentine.
