The Electoral Commissioner gave me suggestions as to the timetable, but the decision remains mine alone under the Electoral Act. I have resolved that the writ will issue on 3 January, the rolls will close on 13 January, nominations will close on 16 January and polling will be on 31 January. On that timetable, the writ should be returned and the new member able to sit when parliament resumes in the new year.
