<by role="member" id="535">The Hon. J.D. HILL:</by> I want to make a ministerial statement in relation to a question that was asked in parliament last week by the member for Morphett, who, I am pleased to note, is here, in relation to Dr Randall Long.</text>
<text id="201103229290cfa6ae4c48f3b0000176">Dr Randall Long, the Consultant Psychiatrist at the Weight Disorder Unit at Flinders Medical Centre is held in high regard by SA Health. Dr Long is an integral member of the committee developing the new statewide model of care for people with eating disorders. Dr Long was appointed to this committee after—I emphasise that—posting A4 protest flyers at Flinders Medical Centre in public corridors, lift bays and community areas.</text>
<text id="201103229290cfa6ae4c48f3b0000177">I understand and value Dr Long's passion for his patients and the service that he runs. Nonetheless, Flinders Medical Centre, like all hospitals, has designated noticeboards for the display of corporate information providing information to staff. The hospital also has community noticeboards, where community, union and other information can be displayed.</text>
<text id="201103229290cfa6ae4c48f3b0000178">Dr Long was alerted that an investigation would be held into his responsibilities when displaying material in a letter from the Director of Mental Health, Adelaide Health Service. In a statement provided to <term>The Advertiser</term>, the Acting Chief Executive of SA Health has noted that the matter could have been dealt with in a more circumspect manner, and he has undertaken to review the manner in which staff are reminded of their responsibilities.</text>
<text id="201103229290cfa6ae4c48f3b0000179">Dr Long has received written notification that the investigation has been completed and the issue will not be pursued further. Last week, I attributed a quote from <term>The Advertiser</term> that appeared on the poster to Dr Long. I am advised that, whilst Dr Long said similar things to the Leader of the Opposition on her visit, he has not commented in such a way to <term>The Advertiser</term>.</text>
