          <by role="member" id="634">The Hon. M.D. RANN (Ramsay—Premier, Minister for Economic Development, Minister for Social Inclusion, Minister for the Arts, Minister for Sustainability and Climate Change):</by>  The Treasurer has provided the following information regarding FTE Caps:</text>
        <text id="200806058fe3bb297a0e4c2480000466">FTE caps have been established for all general government sector agencies. The aggregate FTE cap for 30 June 2007 is 74,560.</text>

        <text id="200806058fe3bb297a0e4c2480000467">From 1 July 2007 the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) commenced monitoring staff numbers against the caps. This is done through the extraction of data from agency payroll systems. Agencies are required to explain any significant variations between staffing levels and the FTE cap. </text>
        <text id="200806058fe3bb297a0e4c2480000468">The caps are consistent with the level of salaries and wages budgets. Any changes to the salaries and wages budget, for example, through new initiatives, will result in a corresponding adjustment to the FTE cap. Changes in FTEs between years reflect the timing of all past and present budget and savings initiatives.</text>
