CAICA (Colton—Minister for Employment, Training and Further Education, Minister for Science and Information Economy, Minister for Youth, Minister for Gambling): According to the ABS, employment grew by 1,800 in the mining sector between May 2006 and May 2007. These figures do not distinguish between direct and indirect employment and were sourced through a survey sample estimated to be less than 100 people. Forward estimates are not provided by the ABS. While these numbers can, and will continue, to fluctuate, as mining companies define and redefine their scope of operations, the State Government is continuing to work in close partnership with these companies to maximise employment opportunities.
