Data indicates that in the same year, there was also a decrease in the total waste generated in South Australia which may be attributed to the global financial crisis. In 2008-09, the total waste generated decreased by 116,047 tonnes compared with 2007-08, in spite of population growth. However, total waste generated in the two previous financial years (2006-07 and 2005-06) had increased by 162,657 and 25,050 tonnes, respectively.</text>
